Default KB10009 - "Some databases failed to synchronize: Address Book" appears during EA

KB10009 - "Some databases failed to synchronize: Address Book" appears during enterprise activation

Environment

  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server
  • BlackBerry smartphones
  • SDR101354

Overview

While performing the enterprise activation process on your BlackBerry smartphone, the following error message appears:
Some databases failed to synchronize: Address book

Cause

There are multiple potential causes for this error.
Summary of Causes
  1. You have created a Microsoft® Outlook® contact that contains no name or company name (for example, a contact with only a phone number).
  2. There are invalid characters (#[email protected]!%-,^") in your BlackBerry smartphone Address Book, your IBM® Lotus® Notes® address book, or your Microsoft Outlook contacts.
  3. You have created a Novell® GroupWise® contact that contains no first name and last name, supplying only the display name.

Resolution

Complete the appropriate resolution for your cause.
Cause 1
You have created a Microsoft Outlook contact that contains no name or company name.
Resolution 1
Open Microsoft Outlook contacts and check for entries with blank name fields. If there is a blank name field, validate the contact by typing information into the name field.
Cause 2
There are invalid characters (#[email protected]!%$"-,^") in your BlackBerry smartphone Address Book, IBM Lotus Notes address book, or Microsoft Outlook contacts.
Resolution 2
Check your contacts for any invalid characters in the name field. If there is an invalid character, remove the character and then save the contact.
Cause 3
You have created a Novell GroupWise contact that contains no first name and last name, supplying only the display name.
Resolution 3
Check your contacts for any entries that do not have a first name and last name. If a contact is located that does not have a first name and last name, type information into those fields.

Once this change is made, you can make the Address Book in the BlackBerry smartphone synchronize again by performing the following steps:
  1. On the BlackBerry smartphone, open Address Book.
  2. View the menu and select Options.
  3. Set Wireless Synchronization to No and then save the changes.
  4. Open the Address Book Options screen again.
  5. Set Wireless Synchronization to Yes and again save the changes.
